Education program

is...

A program in which students contribute content to Wikimedia projects.
  • classroom assignments
  • class about wikipedia editing
  • GLAM cooperation
  • MoE cooperation
  • International baccalaureate program
  • translations
  • student groups
  • research centres/associations

What are we doing well?

  • improving WM porjects
  • changing students' lives
  • revolutionising classroom teaching
  • addressing Wikipedia's gender gap
  • using existing on-campus support structures (libraries, teaching centres)

Challenges

  • Not enough volunteers
  • Not enough time
  • Burnout (local volunteers and program leaders)
  • Convincing instructors
  • Sharing learning among program leaders
  • Translating between academia and Wikipedia
  • Lack of internet connectivity (or even electricity)
  • Hostility from exiting editors (esp. on w:en)
  • Working without a chapter affiliation
  • Geography - size/location/travel distance

RfC is (potentially) a worthwhile way to request comment from the community about a specific education project.
