Overview

The aim of this proposal is documented the different subjects in the city of London by high-resolution and quality images available under Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license. These images will be released on Wikimedia Commons for all Wikimedia projects. I’d like to target my efforts especially about not tourist-one sightseeing (but might be included too), but more likely about parks, small churches, buildings of local importance (libraries, tube stations, hospitals, shops etc.).

Budget

I am planning to make 1 to 2 trips per week using local transport system (tube and/or buses) in zone 1-3, therefore I estimate the maximum cost per 1 trip be around £6.4 (when using my Oyster card will be available) to £9 (when all receives will be necessary without possibility used Oyster card). As a pilot program, I’d like to run this project till end of May. I guess I will be able to do 10 trips till end of this period, let say maximum budget around £100 for this period. When I will be more active than I now plan and used this amount earlier, I'd make new proposal for next amount of money (giving you the chance considering my benefits/quality of images/amount of images).

Not expecting any additional costs.

Timeline

I’d like to run this project as pilot till end of May. I am planning upload images during whole this period when I will make the trip and postprocessing in computer. After the end of May, I will make short report and evaluate how much images were generated and most probable write next proposal for extension of this project till end of August.

Expected outcomes

Based on my previous experiences with similar grants in Czech chapter (WMCZ), I expect minimum around 50-100 high quality images per trip which might correspond to 10 subjects. Mostly I will try target about subjects which have articles on en.wiki or there is high chance that these articles will be established. This amount of images per trip I would consider it a success.

Who I am

My name is Petr Brož (Chmee2) and I am active member of Wikimedia projects mostly based on Czech Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. I have more than 60k+ edits globally and I uploaded more than 10k+ images from around the world, please see my category on Commons. I am also author of several Featured pictures and several dozens of Quality images, please see my userpage so I selfishly will guess that I have some basics about photographing. Also I am member of WMCZ and WMUK.

I am equipped with SLR camera (Canon 50D) with normal lens and with telephoto lens (for details on buildings) and external flesh. Therefore all necessary is available.

Thank you in advance for considering of this proposal and best regards --Chmee2 (talk) 21:29, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Discussion

Many thanks, Chmee2, for putting together this interesting proposal. I'm sure that others will want to comment on this, so I'll leave this pending for a few days, but I'm currently minded to approve it after that period. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 21:59, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Apparently no-one else wants to comment on this, so I'll approve it, with a maximum budget of £100. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 12:31, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
Hi Mike, thanks. I have one question about procedure how to start. Can I buy new Oyster card and charged with (e.g.) £50 and get receive for it (for your accounting and if necessary charge again later) or is it here some other way fallowing your inner rules? It will be probable easier for your accounting buy new one than using my current card. I don't need money now to buy it but I'd like to have all correctly prepared before I start using this microgrant. Regards --Chmee2 (talk) 13:07, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
Yes, Chmee2, that sounds like a good idea. Get a new oyster card - make sure you register it - and top it up with £50. I will reimburse you the cost! Richard Symonds (WMUK) (talk) 16:30, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the fantastic report - it's great to see that you've uploaded so many high quality photographs! I'm happy to approve an extension to the microgrant timeline until the end of August 2013, and would love to see this extended beyond that. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 20:43, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
