IT Development/Scoping Project

From Wikimedia UK
Jump to navigation Jump to search

In June 2014, I (Tom Morton, ErrantX) was contracted to conduct a scoping exercise, and produce a report into Wikimedia UK's technology needs. The aim is to make a series of recommendations for managing technology projects going forward and to ensure the charity delivers a program of technology work consistent with its mission. I'll try to conduct as much of this project in public as possible, so please feel free to edit this page to add comments or use the talk page!

Stakeholders

The first step of this project is to conduct interviews with various stakeholders; staff, trustees, charity members, project-users, etc. I'll be using various methodologies to do this; including direct email/phone, surveys and other forms. If you haven't heard from me yet and have an opinion to give then please drop me an email, or write it on the talk page.

Questions

Here are some questions I'd like to see Stakeholders answer.

Who are you, and what is your relationship to Wikimedia UK?
Just a brief overview.
What technology, operated by WMUK, do you regularly use/need? And how is it useful for you.
If applicable. Even if it is just "the Wiki"
What technology projects should WMUK support?
Here I am looking for specific projects, as well as a general concept of what direction you'd like the charity to take.
Are you involved in any particular projects? Please give details.
Introduce me to your project, the stage it is at and how involved the charity currently is (and how involved you'd like them to be!)
Have you had any interactions which received, or needed, technology project management? Did it meet your expectations, and how can it be improved?
The crux of this project is to make a recommendation about the management of technology in the charity. So please be as detailed as possible! If you are bringing criticism please make it constructive.
Do you have any other comments/questions?

OTRS Staff, Volunteers Used to handle support email. Picked to match WMF, helpful to volunteers. Realistically; any of our volunteers using the system are not likely WMF OTRS respondents anyway.
