Wikimedia UK is an unincorporated association comprised of people interested in forming a Chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation within the United Kingdom.

Wiki Educational Resources Ltd was founded in February 2006 as a Company Limited by Guarantee under the Companies Acts 1985 and 1989. The Company is incorporated in England and Wales, number 05708269.

The Company owns the licence to use the name "Wikimedia UK" from the Wikimedia Foundation, Inc., a non-profit charitable corporation registered under the laws of Florida, USA with 501(c)(3) tax exempt status in the United States, which it permits the use of by the unicorporated Chapter. Wiki Educational Resources Ltd, Wikimedia UK and Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. are entirely separate organisations and neither is responsible for the activities of the other nor can any of them bind or command another to any course of action.

Neither Wiki Educational Resources Ltd nor Wikimedia UK are agents of nor subsidiaries of the Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. and have no management responsibility for nor rights over the Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia, and cannot be held responsible for the actions or inactions of individual editors on those projects.
